Why is Scientology not a religion

subota, 18. rujna 2010.

Scientology at first glance have all what a religion should have. There are rituals, symbols, Sunday Liturgy ... But to have a worship, in this word should be - God. In fact, Scientology has no creed or any points of contact with the transcendental in any sense. There is no mention of God or Salvation ... nothing!
The question is whether religion must necessarily have a connection with the transcendental? And the answer is ... Yes!

Namely, if we set Scientology against for example communism as an ideology ... And there we see the symbols of communism, there were even apostles (Marx, Engels, Lenin), it has its final goal (communism / classless society), has its own holy book (manifesto), has its own philosophy ... but there is no connection with the transcendental and therefore it is not a religion but an ideology.

Originally I looked at Scientology as yet another New Age movement. In this day and age when there is a reign of spiritual hunger, the New Age is from the religion of consumerism has become an instant religion, just as we are becoming instant civilizations. Take a mix of religions, make a cocktail, take what you amiss, the principal is that it is good for you - and make your own spirituality.

But Scientology is not mentioning anywhere, nor touch the spirituality.
One monk who is also known for his ecumenical and interreligious work met with a member of the Church of Scientology. His conclusion was as follows: Scientology not a religion (because it has no connection with the transcendental), and his followers are manipulated so that some psychological mystery
is revealed to them.
